Hi Everyone,

Happy Early Thanksgiving!

Apologies that I haven’t posted anything in a while. My father passed away 2 months ago, and I haven’t painted since… It’s been hard on my family and obviously my mind has been elsewhere. However, I have appreciated many people’s inquiries and patience. I wanted to let you know that I have started back up again today and am looking forward to showcasing more work soon! I certainly have missed this!

In the spirit of sharing art with others, what better way is there than to show how they can create for themselves?!

I have decided to share this mini tutorial on alcohol-based marker. I prefer using the Copic brand marker on marker paper. I use this medium for many of my fashion illustrations.

Scroll through these 5 photos to see the progress...

Step 1: Find your inspiration and draw the basic outline lightly in pencil.
Step 2: Base Color - Using your lightest color markers, fill in areas that will not be white.
Step 3: Light Colors - Again using your lightest color markers, begin to create layers. You will finish all the lightest areas of your artwork at this stage.
Step 4: Medium Colors - Grab your medium color markers and begin to add the dark areas.
Step 5: Dark Colors - Grab your darkest colors to finish!

***Helpful hints for when using marker:
a. The alcohol in the markers allow the colors to blend very easily. That is why you always start light and save the darks for last.
b. The marker tends to bleed through even marker paper, so make sure to cover your work area or layer up several pages underneath.

I hope you enjoyed this!
