It’s been some time, but we just want to take a moment to highlight a member of our community, donning their custom Belize 🇧🇿 jerseys, please meet !
“I was born and raised in Bern, Switzerland. My mom’s austrian/german and my dad’s a full blood belizean. We moved back to Belize when I was about 4 years old and came back to Switzerland for the school enrollment over here. Since then, we tried to travel to Belize annualy. To me it always felt like a homecoming, in my heart I knew this is where I belong. Believe it or not, I experienced and survived a lot of violence over here in Switzerland. Even though I was born and raised here, speak their languages fluently and did everything trying to fit in, I never felt welcomed. So whenever I need to feel a little bit of home, there’s this place called papilliorama in Switzerland. They protect in a very concrete way more than 23’000 hectares of tropical nature in Belize. So at this place you will also find like a little tropical garden dedicated to the beautiful nature in Belize. So as you might guess, that’s where the picture was taken.
My Dad’s from a small Town called Corozal Town in the northern part in Belize. His family is very well known along the people and all over the country in Belize. Everybody knows the Mendez Family from Corozal lol. Now, as a single raising father, I’m trying to teach my son his roots and culture as early as possible. And up to now I can already say, he’s a proud belizean. So sometimes I feel our country’s misunderstood. Yes, there is a lot of violence and corruption going on, but tell me, where isn’t it? My main goal out here is to put my beautiful country back on the map!”
