Family weddings, I did go all out, but you won't always see me like this....
As a Professional Makeup Coach I still love the art of makeup and creativity but also know that Islamic principles do not encourage showing off our beauty hence hijab is not just a head covering but an attitude, a mindset.
Whilst EVERYDAY I adhere to such practices, on family wedding days, I did however Glam up as others are also glamming up too and then would not be drawing attention to myself. If everyone were dressed up simply, I, too, would be opting for a more natural look.
The point is trying not to stand out by looking at the occasion/situation. I know I could have been more simple, but I suppose I need to have an even stronger imaan to fight my nafs of wanting to look good at weddings and using my artistry of 20 years.
I hope Allah gives me the courage to do so inshallah.
On another note, I wanted to look nice for my husband too, and when he's next to me, I want nice memories to look back on, so that's another reason.
Allah knows our intentions, and that gives me so much hope.
I'm putting this out there for those of you who, like me, are new to hijab and finding their way closer to our beautiful Deen and finding strength in our imaan. Sometimes, it's difficult to quit things we love, but if we take steps towards the right direction, inshallah we will get there 🙏 ❤️
