Soul death can be experienced through many modes of transformation, letting go, or loss, leading to renewal, or rebirth from darkness, or disintegration.
As an archetype, death is the energy of intensely emotional, symbolic burial and resurrection, which releases whatever in our life needs to be gone completely, irreversibly and forever, whether that be a fear, relationship, possession, old grudge or resentment, or otherwise outworn way of life.
Mythologically, Medusa embodies this death and rebirth, which transmutes the seething passion and pain of the betrayal she’s suffered into calm detachment and winged freedom. Only when she’s beheaded does her torment end, when she is reborn as the winged horse, Pegasus.
This resurrection from dark imprisonment into the freedom of ‘spiritual instinct’ transforms the death/rebirth energy of the Serpent into the shrewdness, strength, and depth of perception that is Eagle medicine.
