In 1749, Renaissance writer Voltaire brought attention to Paris' imminent problem - despite its magnificent monuments, its poor infrastructure would not sustain the city's beauty for long. The city needed a holistic redesign. Centuries later, Sarah Dauterman exited Paris' Voltaire metro stop to discover a city whose history, energy, and beauty would captivate her and inspire an eight-month journey

around the world. She happened to arrive with a need to replace a missing pair of beloved vintage sunglasses - regrettably lost just after being repaired - but left with a vision for eyewear that aligned with Voltaire's mandate. Inspired by the global journey and the significance behind its commencing "Voltaire" gateway, Sarah created Volterre with a mission to convert fashion eyewear from impermanent investments to travel-friendly, collectible keepsakes. Volterre - the combination of the French words ‘vol,’ meaning flight, and ‘terre,’ meaning earth - encapsulates vintage silhouettes in modern, durable frames that fit easily in your pocket. as someone who’s obviously passionate about eyewear, I still have lost the case and thus the means to protect every pair of sunglasses I own except for my Volterre glasses. These guys have stuck with me through trips around the globe to visit manufacturers and about 14 relocations due to COVID displacement.

cool news‼️because our shades our made out of lightweight, recyclable stainless steel and shipped safely with low-mass packing (glueless paper boxes and flat vegan pouches), we’re pretty dang sustainable. But there’s always more to improve!

Memories of Bali. Can you imagine a world where the fisheries can no longer self-sustain, where we can no longer wade into the water and feel moss between our toes or float and stare at the sky above us? Our coastlines and marine ecosystems are rapidly facing destruction due to plastic overuse, and this isn’t a problem that consumers can change themselves by avoiding plastic. Real policy change and incentives must be put in place to incentivize corporations to find better practices than pumping 300 million tons of plastic into the world EACH YEAR.

I figured the least I could do was donate a good chunk of my margins to ($40 for each Uluwatu) - an awesome organization initiatives that address the root of our plastic problems. Happy to say that lightweight glasses, plastic-free cases and slim packaging give them a very low footprint too. 🐠

Did you know most of the renowned Brooklyn venues are BIPOC and LGBTQ-owned? Pre-COVID, these places put NYC’s nightlife on the map for being authentic, culturally diverse places where people can be themselves.

Also, did your know that found that today, it’s 7x harder to get a small business loan as a black person than a white person? or that, according to a study by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition, white men were 4x more likely to be approved for a PPP Loan?

Investing in keeping culture and diversity alive is important to me, which is why $40 of each Dunes sold will go to and , which both raise relief money to BIPOC and LGBTQ-owned businesses in Brooklyn afloat. Read more on my site!
