22 Days in the Backcountry. A Ram Worth the Wait.

At 68 years young, Allan Klassen is still putting in full guiding seasons in the sheep mountains, and after hunting and guiding sheep since 1979, he knows exactly what it takes to get the job done.

This 22-day hunt with an old friend delivered a special moment on day 16, when his buddy took an incredible 10-year-old ram measuring over 40 inches.

Days like these are what sheep hunting is all about. Long days, hard-earned opportunities, good friends, and memories that last a lifetime.

Nearly five decades of sheep hunting and guiding experience, and Yukon resident Alan Klassen is still out there doing what he loves.

That’s a lifetime in the mountains, and a passion that hasn’t faded.

Our hats are off to you Allan,we will continue to live vicariously through you.

The mountains don’t give up their rams easily.

After putting in the miles, battling through tough weather, and grinding through the backcountry, this hunt finally came together for BC resident Kyle George.

What made the moment even more special was that this wasn’t just any ram — it was the first ram spotted on the trip and his first-ever ram. Kyle has been on countless sheep hunts, but always pulled the short straw on being the first shooter.

As a B.C. resident, harvesting your first Stone’s sheep is an incredible hunt one he won’t soon forget. The effort, the weather, and the miles all became worth it when the opportunity finally came together.

A hard-earned ram from a hunt that demanded everything the backcountry could throw at him.

Huge congrats Kyle George

Some rams are special because of their size. Others are special because of the story it took to find them.

This is “Paddles,” a truly unique Stone Sheep from Northern BC.

BC resident Trent Woloschuk had watched this ram for a few days late last season, but like so many sheep hunts, there were no guarantees he would ever see him again. Somehow, this year the mountains gave him another opportunity.

Fast forward to 2026, for two days, Trent and his hunting partner sat on Paddles, watching and waiting. On the second day, the ram began feeding his way down the mountain — from 1,080 yards to 287 yards — eventually giving Trent the opportunity he had been waiting for.

The shot was made from 7,087 feet, after a hunt that was as mentally demanding as it was physically grueling.

But what makes a hunt like this even more memorable is the people you share it with. The friendships built in the mountains, the long days glassing, the uncertainty, the conversations and the shared excitement when everything finally comes together — those are the parts of sheep hunting that stay with you long after the pack is back home.

And then there is the ram itself.

Paddles is a unique, impressive Stone Sheep with growth that immediately sets him apart. A ram that was recognized, remembered and ultimately found again a season later. That kind of history makes the accomplishment that much more meaningful.

The hunt took place in the Toad River/Muncho Lake area of Northern BC, in rugged country that demands good preparation, good equipment and even better company.

A remarkable ram, a hard-earned hunt, good friends and a story that started one season before the trigger was ever pulled.

Trent’s noted his KUIU system is into its 3rd season of mountain hunts and is still going strong!

Congratulations Trent on an incredible Stone Sheep and an unforgettable mountain adventure.

BC resident Jason Mutch didn’t leave much left for us to add, so here it is in his own words.
I’ve been sheep hunting for 10 years, and this season everything finally came together. My wife Miranda joined me for our 20th anniversary and her first sheep hunt—and she proved to be my lucky charm.

After spotting a band of rams before opening day, I noticed this heavy monarch on a separate range. We watched him bed down and were back at 4 a.m. the next morning. After a brutal six-hour climb, he had disappeared. Just as we were preparing for the long descent, he reappeared exactly where we had last seen him, 650 yards away.

I made a careful stalk along the ridge through the rocks and eventually closed the distance to 451 yards, with an estimated 40 km/h crosswind. After confirming he was legal, I waited for him to bed and took the shot. The first one missed in the wind. He disappeared briefly, then reappeared 20 yards closer. The second shot connected, and after two strides, he was down.

The emotion of that moment was hard to put into words. Ten years of sheep hunting, countless miles and all the highs and lows of the mountains had come together in one unforgettable moment. It was truly a spiritual experience.

Even more special was knowing Miranda was watching from nearly 2 km away. She watched the entire sequence unfold before hearing the shots several seconds later.

Ram: 39 5/8” with 15” bases.

Gear: KUIU Guide Jacket, Attack Pants, Guide Gloves & Pro 7800 Pack — all in Vias.

I genuinely believe the Vias camo played a major role in allowing me to get into position on this ram. I’ve had this gear for seven years and put it through everything the mountains could throw at it. After crawling through four-foot rocks, the jacket and pants are finally showing some wear—but I’d say they’ve earned it.
Huge congrats Jason, and thank you for taking the time to describe this incredible experience with us. Best of luck with the rest of the season!

Yukon resident Jessica Chevallier’s first-ever Dall sheep — and what a way to start.

Opening day produced a truly unique ram and an unforgettable experience for Jessica. First rams are special, but rams like this one make the memory even that much more special.

Congratulations on an incredible first sheep and a hunt you won’t soon forget.

The Arctic doesn’t give up its trophies easily.

Francois Seguin of Quebec spent 48 straight hours pinned down in a tent as Greenland’s unforgiving weather refused to cooperate. Patience, grit, and determination were the only options.

When the skies finally opened, so did the opportunity. The reward was an incredible Greenland muskox and a hunt that proved some of the greatest adventures come only after enduring the toughest conditions.

Congratulations, Francois, on an unforgettable Arctic adventure and an outstanding muskox.
Thanks for trusting KUIU for all your adventures!

At 62 years young, Irene Esposito of Alberta proved that determination has no age limit.

Hunting the rugged mountains of New Zealand’s Otago Region, Irene was in search of a mature Himalayan Tahr.

When Irene and her guide spotted this old bull Tahr, there were no questions to be asked, this was why she had come to NZ.

Scrambling up a loose scree slope, crossing a rock crevice, and quickly settling into position, Irene made an impressive shot to complete an unforgettable mountain hunt.

Congratulations, Irene, on an incredible achievement and a trophy that was truly earned.
