Happy Juneteenth. Recognizing a pioneering native born Black American Herm Atkins. He qualified for the Olympic Trials in 1976 in the 5000 meters and in 1979 placed 9th in the Boston Marathon running 2:14.17 and placing 5th with a 2:11.52 time in the Nike OTC Marathon in Eugene, Oregon. He then began running for Nike which, took him to races in places like Rotterdam, Bermuda, Japan, and Puerto Rico. In 1979, he was the sixth fastest American marathoner and his time of 2:11.52 remains as an incredible achievement 40 years later. His time still ranks him #3 in the marathon by a native-born, black American. In 1980 and 1984 he qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials in the marathon but missed making the U.S. Olympic Team. He continued to run competitively in the 1980s and well into the 1990s. One of the best Americans distance runners of his era and a true trail blazer. There's never a dull moment in owning/operating a small family business. Things can change in an instant. While most of you kindly didn't notice, our building has been out of power for 10 days. That changed yesterday PM when we got fully re-connected. So, all is well. Significant thankyous are due to Garcia Properties, our building management and to Dave next door, owner of . Sarah at Garcia was on it immediately activating her team with solutions (portable AC's/power from the building behind us, facilitating repairs) to keep us open and operating while repairs were made and Dave kindly allowed us to use one of their outlets to power our Point of Sale system. We can't thank them enough. We've had a successful last 10 days although a little warm. Thank you for supporting us as we worked through this challenge. Jennifer and . Had a few inquiries about how Martin made out on his first "fueling "run. Here's the update: "Haha clean and easy. Ran in Tower Grove so I'd have access to bathrooms in case of emergency, but no need. Both Taco Bell bean burrito and White Castle have been wins thus far." This is Martin. Aaron is coaching him for the Taco Bell 50K this fall. From the race site: "If you complete the challenge, you will be deemed a SURVIVOR, revered and heckled for life!" Basic rule: "Eat a menu item from at least 9 of the 10 Taco Bell stops.". Aaron has him on a Lydiard Method Marathon plan, but with specific "fueling" work each weekend.
