“I’d just love to see a Charleston Set.” Two & a half years ago, Glenn & I went on a little mahjong journey, starting with a simple statement of longing to play on tiles that spoke to us.

The first set we produced, our Charleston Tiles, is a love letter, not only to The Holy City, {where I was born, where we both live} but to her nostalgic icons.

“Soft as the song of the sea in a shell.” This is a line in the cross-stitched poem that my mother made when I was a baby. {It still hangs in my childhood room!} I wonder if she could have imagined that Glenn & I would both be water girls. {I wonder if she knows that I’ll never see a lettered olive & not think of her.}

The painted turtle was an obvious choose for our lake inspired tiles. We naturally think of symbols that remind us of the southeast, & the painted turtle, as it turns out, is the turtle most widespread in North America, the most common turtle in *all* lakes, & well, we just love the ties that bind.
