Curves are having a major moment in design— and for good reason. They add movement, softness, and a custom feel that you just can’t get from straight lines.

Wood can be curved, but not without some ingenuity. We slice the wood into strips and finger bend the board by hand, allowing the grain pattern to follow the curves of your home.

Curves are fun. Curves are challenging. And when they’re done right, they make a space.

Finishing is all about trusting the process. Bold colors require bold treatments— and sometimes, that means your floor might be blue before finishing the color process. This is a reactive base that reacts with the tannins in the French Oak, bringing deep and rich hues to the final result. The color is left looking like it is a part of the wood itself and not painted on like a pigment stain.

Color processes like this can only been done by hand and take a very high level of quality control to recreate. Each process also needs a full day to finish its reaction, which is why mass manufacturers opt for more simple techniques.

Introducing: The Monarch Bay Residence. Every surface you see here — flooring, wall paneling, ceiling paneling, stairs, and beams — is BH French oak, milled and hand finished in our Los Angeles fabrication studio.

All of the material for the project was sourced from the same trees in the same forest, so the grain and tone carry cohesively through the entire home.

The paneling runs up to 25’ long with zero butt joints. Every board was thoroughly planned out by the build and design team before a single piece was installed. The cladding features a nickel gap reveal and wire brushed surface, subtly hinting at the materiality of the wood planks.

Our Shrunk Face finish brings texture and movement to every single plank, while long uninterrupted boards and concentric patterns make each space in this house unique.

Walnut is one of the most versatile hardwoods available—and it’s often misunderstood. Most manufactures consider sap ‘in-grade’, so you could order a select grade walnut floor that is “defect free” and get stuck with tons of white sap stripes.

At BoardHouse, we don’t consider sap in grade. This means we buy logs that are sap free and don’t need to be steamed— a practice 99% of manufacturers use to reduce the contrast between the chocolate brown walnut tones and bright white sap streaks.

Our non-steamed sourcing guidelines ensure you are getting pure Walnut and also allow us to have ultimate flexibility with the color. From rich, natural chocolate tones to beautifully bleached, contemporary finishes, BoardHouse Walnut has an incredible ability to transform while retaining the character that makes it one of the world’s most sought-after hardwoods.

A staircase is more than a way to get upstairs—it’s often the focal point of a home.

That’s why we mock up every critical detail before production, ensuring the proportions, craftsmanship, and ex*****on are exactly right.

It’s the extra work no one sees… but everyone notices in the finished result.

Reflecting on all of the change, growth and memories our company has made in the past 15 years— it’s been a wild ride!

As many of you may know, the concept for BoardHouse started nearly 35 years ago with Dutko Hardwood Flooring. We were a hardwood flooring installation company obsessed with innovation. We have since grown into a fully integrated wood manufacturer, finisher and installer. We are very grateful for everyone who has been a part of this journey and are very excited to continue raising the bar for custom wood interiors in the US and beyond.
