Happy Hump Day! 😄

I've got this gorgeous Caticorn fabric ready to sew and had already settled on a Rasant thread colour for the topstitching.

I wound the bobbin, threaded the machine and was all set to go...
..and now I'm having second thoughts 🤣

So I've decided to put it out to the brains trust.

I won't tell you which colour I picked, but if this was your project, which thread would you choose for the topstitching?

Friday night sewing plans!

I’ve finally made it to the end of the week and now I have choices…

1. Sample sew the gorgeous new fabric that arrived this week before it hits the website 😍
2. Spend some proper time working on my crazy quilt, or
3. Tackle the growing mending basket full of pants missing buttons and too-long winter school uniforms.

As much as I want to sew up this gorgeous new print tonight… I think the mending basket is going to win because apparently buttons don’t sew themselves back on. Ugh!

Every one of our Voodoo Doll Machine Needle Pin Cushions is handmade right here at RJF HQ in Sydney.

Cut, sewn, stuffed and packaged in our Sydney studio.

The truth is, I usually end up sewing them late at night while the kids are fast asleep, with Netflix in the background and only one slipper on 😄

One of the things I’m most proud of with Rubyjam Fabric is being able to create and print products in-house while also offering flexible work around family life, study and all the chaos that comes with real life.

Handmade might not always be the fastest or easiest option… but I still think there’s something really special about products made by real people.

I’m trying to rearrange my sewing space and have suddenly realised I apparently sew right-to-left 😄

My setup goes: coverstitch → overlocker → sewing machine.

Most people seem to work left-to-right, but apparently I approach garment sewing like I’m writing ancient manuscripts. Now I’m wondering… do sewists also need to have some sort of magical workflow triangle like kitchens do? 😄

Although honestly, I think the coverstitch only ended up on the end because it was the newest machine and that was the only spot available without moving everything.

My darling husband wants to know if I can fix his work shorts... thoughts? 🤣
